However, as always, when a big fight goes down bet makers start scrambling to get information on odds, and dig for tips on the smartest bet to make. And this fight is no different.
Fluctuation In Odds
Conor McGregor had an impressive fight at UFC 205, in which he emerged victorious over Eddie Alvarez. This was back in November, and it was one of the many occasions in which speculation was given to a match-up between McGregor and Mayweather.
It was also the first time odds were assigned to the fight between the two, put forward by online bookmaking and pokies website Bovada. In their view the fight was massively in favour of Mayweather, and the odds given saw Mayweather with an enormous advantage of -2250, and McGregor at a much less favourable at +950.
These were early days, however, and the fight had not even been made official By the time was made official, the odds had adjusted and brought the two closer together, with the advantage dropping to –800 and +500. Still a significant enough display that many would give little thought about where to put their money.
Fantasy Turned Reality
Many still can’t even believe that the fight is a reality, and some are still assuming that the whole fight will be revealed to be some sort of hoax. After all, it need not be mentioned that McGregor is not a professional boxer, and has virtually zero experience in the ring. An MMA fighter he may be, and a good one at that, but there is an enormous difference between MMA and professional boxing. And this is not even taking into consideration that Mayweather has a perfect record of 49 wins.
These is the primary reason for the odds being so in favour of Conor, with many assuming that McGregor would barely stand a chance. But there may be many surprises in this match-up yet. McGregor is certainly the younger of the two fighters, and he doesn’t exactly have the physique of a slouch.
A Fight For The History Books
Whatever the outcome, this is certainly a fight that people will be talking about for years to come. A match-up that many thought was completely impossible turned into a reality. Be sure to get your bets in before fight day.
